A patient approach makes the day feel sulit—worth the time and effort—especially when the nature experience is paired with a Basey cultural stop.

The park appears to be active in mid-2026: the Basey Municipal Tourism Development Office has posted recent Sohoton activity, and the Sohoton Service Cooperative resumed operations on February 4, 2026 after a weather disturbance. However, the same official tourism office also announced temporary closures on specific February dates. This pattern matters more than a generic “open daily” statement: river and safety conditions can override normal operation.

The official Basey tourism hotlines recently published for inquiries are 0967-875-9160 and 0945-782-0816; the Sohoton Service Cooperative hotline listed by the tourism office is 0955-689-1989. Numbers and staffing can change, so use the official tourism page to verify them before relying on a call or message.

Basey is the essential staging point. Independent visitors should normally coordinate first with the Municipal Tourism Office or follow the current instruction given by Basey Tourism, then continue to the Sohoton Visitor Center in Barangay Wespal. A recent 2026 traveler guide quoted approximately ₱100–₱150 for a short tricycle or habal-habal transfer to Wespal, but confirm whether the quote is per vehicle, per direction, or per passenger.

From Tacloban City

Tacloban is the most practical airport and hotel base for many visitors. Public transport toward Basey can be inexpensive, but departure waits and multiple stops can make the actual journey unpredictable. A private vehicle or pre-arranged transfer is easier for families, small groups, travelers carrying equipment, and anyone who needs to match a confirmed park start time.

From Basey town

Basey is the best choice for minimizing morning uncertainty. Staying locally or arriving before the tourism office becomes busy gives more time for registration, payment, and the ride to Wespal. Do not go directly to a random riverside point based only on an old blog; ask which jump-off and payment process are being used on your date.

From Catbalogan or farther north in Samar

A same-day visit is possible only with a very early start and dependable transport, but it becomes a long travel day. The better plan is often to sleep in Basey or Tacloban the night before, especially during periods of rain or when relying on public vans. Ask your accommodation about the first realistic departure and the last dependable return rather than trusting a fixed online timetable.

The boat journey from the Wespal side into the Sohoton landscape is one of the day’s main experiences. Forest closes around the water, limestone appears through vegetation, and the busy roadside world disappears. Older descriptions refer to the Kadak-an or Golden River route and a journey that can take roughly 15–30 minutes depending on the current jump-off and water conditions. Treat that time as an orientation range, not a schedule.
